Sleep apnea is hugely under-appreciated, undiagnosed, and undertreated. It is often undiagnosed because many believe that in order to have the disorder one has to be severely overweight, fall asleep at stop signs or snore like a freight train. Sleep apnea now has a well-known correlation with high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, heart failure, stroke, atrial fibrillation, heart attacks, sudden cardiac death, as well as migraine headaches and depression.
The treatment for sleep apnea carries little to no risk and most people feel it improves their quality of life. In addition, in 2018, the vast majority of people do not require the wearing of a bulky face mask that people fear having to tolerate.
The benefit to patients and the improvement in their cardiovascular health is what sparked the initiative to establish our in-office sleep lab which is certified and accredited.
